PAST EVENTS

Mother & Father’s Day Tributes – The total amount of $326 was collected was donated to the United Methodist Homes. Thank you for your many tributes.

6/21 – Indoor Picnic – Our local UMW met for our annual indoor covered-dish picnic at the home of Barbara & Don Loock. Rebecca Sella showed us photos and told us about her last summer’s experience at Taize, France (a spiritual retreat) with Bishop Devadar and many young people from around the world. Jenna Tshudy attended the year before.

Rebecca’s dad, Thom, drove Rebecca to the Loock’s home and was also our guest. Our local UMW gave scholarship money to Rebecca and Jenna to go to Taize. We carpooled from the church to the Loock’s home.

7/22 – School of Missions – UMW’s Annual School of Missions was held from 7/22-24 at Caldwell College. Several local UMW members attended.

8/9 – Meeting – Belvidere UMW met on Tues, Aug 9, for a brief planning meeting. The menu was discussed for Victorian Days’ Saturday breakfast and lunch event. Paula Hilliard passed out sign-up sheets for food donations and work schedule. We will sell sodas, coffee, scones & light dessert outside in front of the church. There will be tables and chairs inside (air-conditioned) and outside. Barbeque, fancy sandwiches, regular sandwiches of egg and tuna salad, etc, quiche, hot dogs, pies, cakes, brownies, muffins, etc.

8/13 – Hymn Sing – Our local UMW visited patients at Warren Haven Nursing Home on Sat, Aug 13. We do this annually to sing familiar hymns to and with residents gathered together to hear us. Marilou Tshudy accompanied us on the piano. Adella Wauhop and Marilou sang a duet acapella. Chris Howard  presented a mini-sermon “Heaven is for Real!”. Our group carpooled to Top of the Green Restaurant for lunch before going to Warren Haven.

9/10 – Victorian Day – Thanks to all who helped in each and every way to make our breakfast & lunch sale the success that it was on Victorian Day. Thanks to all who made and donated food to sell, those who helped sell it, helped set up prior to the sale and cleanup afterwards, bought food and drinks and ate there, etc.  Thanks for your participation in shopping at our table set up as “Boutique for Becky.” All proceeds from it benefit our church member Becky Long who continues her recovery from a spinal injury. Becky is the granddaughter of Don & Barbara Loock.

9/13 – Meeting– The program referencing upcoming UMW events and new ideas for meetings was presented by our new Skylands District President, Pat Schultz, who was introduced by our outgoing president, Sally Tomasina. Kathy Fabiano and Chris Howard were hostesses. A business meting followed the program. Concerns were expressed for the recent victims of the river flooding in downtown Belvidere especially Water St and how the church and UMW reached out and tried to help some of these people who’ve been flooded out more than once.

UPCOMING EVENTS

9/24 – UMW Retreat –  UMW Retreat will be held on Sat, Sep 24, 9am-2pm, in the Bistro Room at Chelsea Assisted Living. The cost to attend is $12 and covers a lunch catered by Thisilldous. Breakfast will be provided by members of UMW. This year’s speaker will be the pastor of Berkshire Valley Church, Nancy Robinson on the topic “A Journey of Forgiveness.”

10/2 – Lunch & Learn – Trinity UMW will offer a “Lunch & Learn”  12:15-2:15pm in Trinity House next to Trinity UMC at 213 Main St, Hackettstown. The event will be open to the public as they provide an opportunity to learn about an extremely important issue, Human Trafficking, which is the second largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world! Christina Mileski is a litigation paralegal and has worked on pro bono projects involving assisting a victim of human trafficking. A light lunch follows but lunch is by reservation only. A free will offering will be taken. Contact: Vicki Hoffman at (908) 852-7533, or Edna Barrier at (973) 426-9420. This, too, is close to home to attend!

10/8 – Skylands District UMW Communion Brunch– This is close to home at attend! The Skylands District UMW Communion Brunch and District UMW Annual Meeting, Oct 8, 9am-noon, will be held at the Harmony Hill UMC, 919 Fairview Lake Rd (Rt 617), Stillwater. Registration and brunch begin at 9am with a Program, “Practicing the Presence of God a Labyrinth Experience” by Rev. Kem Monk, ending at noon. Rev. Monk has led experiential workshops on the labyrinth for many years. Harmony Hills UMC has an outside labyrinth which we will be able to use and Kem has lap labyrinths for those who prefer to stay inside. So, come, learn about it. Experience it, and as you “walk it” feel the presence of God. Bring a bag lunch if you’d like to stay and enjoy fellowship before heading home.

10/16 – Soup & Bake Sale – Sun, Oct 16, following the worship service, the UMW will hold a Homemade Soup & Bake Sale. Please plan to donate soup, chili, pie, cake, brownies, cookies, candy, etc. Also plan to do your shopping for soup and baked goods, etc.

10/22 – GNJAC UMW Annual Meeting – 9-3pm at St. John’s UMC, 2000 Florence Ave, Hazlet, NJ. Hear a dynamic woman of God, our guest preacher, Bishop Violet Fischer.

11/5 – Roast Beef Dinner – Annual Roast Beef Dinner will be held on Sat, Nov 5, 4-7pm. Adults: $11.00; Children: $5.00 (6-12 yrs) (5 and under free). “Family Style”; Take Out Available For Information/Tickets: call (908) 475-4065 or see any UMW member, Tickets available at door
